Monday's Litchfield County roundup: Northwestern boys basketball defeats Litchfield

Northwestern edged Litchfield despite a late run by the Cowboys. The Highlanders defeated the Cowboys 58-54 behind a big game from Ricky Persechino. The Highlanders guard led all scorers with 22 points. Steve McGrath added 11 points in the victory. Litchfield’s Steve Ringquist led the Cowboys with 20 points. Ringquist hit six three’s in the game. Darrin Newbury recorded 14 points while Matt McCarthy added 12 points. Northwestern is 3-2, Litchfield is 3-2.
Boys basketball
Wolcott Tech 55, O’Brien Tech 54 >> Behind a 25 point fourth quarter, Wolcott Tech edged O’Brien Tech. The Wildcats’ Luke Pergola led all scorers with 19 points. Jake Munson added 12 points in the victory. O’Brien Tech’s Joe O’Toole led the Condors with 18 points. Devin Bacchiocchi recorded 14 points. Wolcott Tech is 3-2, O’Brien Tech is 2-3.
Thomaston 47, Shepaug 41 >> Thomaston was tested by Shepaug Monday night but the Golden Bears took home a victory. Shepaug outscored Thomaston 13-2 in the first quarter. Thomaston’s Tyler Donofrio led all scorers with 15 points. Brian Butkevicius added 10 points in the victory. Shepaug’s Robert McCarthy led the Spartans with 13 points. Ryan Lamay recorded 12 points. Thomaston is 2-3, Shepaug is 0-4.
Terryville 80, Wamogo 29 >> Terryville cruised to victory against Wamogo. The Kangaroos’ offense went into high gear in the second quarter when they outscored Wamogo 26-1 to pull away. Terryville’s Jacob Johnson led all scorers with 21 points. Shea Tracy added 16 points. Wamogo’s Matt Rollins led the Warriors with 13 points. Terryville is 4-1, Wamogo is 0-6.
Gilbert 57, Lewis Mills 52 >> In a battle of unbeatens, Gilbert edged Lewis Mills. The Yellowjackets’ Yoharkey Sarmiento led Gilbert with 24 points. Yordan Reyes recorded 14 points in the victory. Lewis Mills’ Alexander Daigle led the Spartans with 24 points. Spencer Maloney added nine points. Gilbert is 3-0, Lewis Mills is 3-1.

Northwestern 31, Litchfield 21 >> Northwestern took down Litchfield despite a lackluster second half. The Cowgirls fought back from a 20 point deficit but ran out of time. Northwestern’s Emma Beltrandi led all scorers with 12 points and brought down 14 rebounds. Kathleen Wysocki added 11 points in the victory. Litchfield’s Tara Shakley led the Cowgirls with seven points. Elena Kennedy brought down five rebounds. Northwestern is 5-1, Litchfield is 1-5.
Nonnewaug 43, Housatonic 35 >> Nonnewaug earned its fourth victory of the season, defeating Housatonic at home. The Chiefs’ Courtney Carlson led all scorers with 15 points. Allison Rescanski added 13 points, hitting four threes in the victory. Housatonic’s Heather Kearns led the Mountaineers with 14 points. Lauren Sagalla recorded 13 points. Nonnewaug is 4-0, Housatonic is 3-2.
Lewis Mills 52, Gilbert 12 >> Lewis Mills defeated Gilbert at home. The Spartans’ Teagan Dunn led all scorers with 20 points. Aliene Berry added eight points in the victory. Gilbert’s Amanda Root and Ali Brochu led the Yellowjackets with five points each.
Terryville 47, Wamogo 39 >> Terryville came out ahead against Wamogo Monday night. The Kangaroos’ Olivia Pilarski and Julia Pilarsky led Terryville with 12 points each. Wamogo’s Brooke Neller led the Warriors with 13 points. Terryville is 2-3, Wamogo is 1-4.
