Monday's Litchfield County roundup: Housatonic’s Willy Yahn records 20th career shut out in boys soccer

Boys soccer

Housatonic boys soccer edged Northwestern behind Willy Yahn who earned his 20th career shut out, a Mountaineers school record. Yahn finished the game with seven saves. Renato Oliveria scored both goals while Trevor Dakers recorded an assist. Northwestern’s Palmer Piana made eight stops. Northwestern is 7-4-4, Housatonic is 8-6-1.

Lewis Mills 4, Wamogo 1 >> Lewis Mills remained undefeated after taking down Wamogo. The Spartans’ Jordan Sokol, Kyle Baron, Ryan Finley and Cole Farrey each scored a goal in the victory. Wamogo’s Matt Rollins scored the lone goal for the Warriors on a penalty kick. Max Loomis made 15 saves. Lewis Mills’ Alexander Daigle made eight stops. Lewis Mills is 11-0-4, Wamogo is 7-7-1.

Shepaug 3, Thomaston 1 >> Shepaug defeated Thomaston behind a strong second half. The Spartans scored two goals after halftime. Christian Stuart, Dan Geyer and Andrew Loya each scored a goal in the victory. Thomaston’s Ben Parietario scored the lone goal for the Golden Bears. Shane O’Bar made nine saves. Shepaug’s Will Harris made eight saves. Thomaston is 3-10-2, Shepaug is 5-9-1.

Nonnewaug 7, Gilbert 0 >> Nonnewaug’s Jack Kingdon scored hat trick in Chiefs victory against Gilbert. Kingdon added two assists. Leland Malloy recorded two goals. Sam Kaelin had two assists. Gilbert’s Austin Stoeke made 10 stops.

Field hockey

Northwestern 2, Wamogo 0 >> Northwestern edged Wamogo on the Warriors’ senior night. Wamogo seniors Serena Marecki, Crissy Clayton and Abby Hutton were honored during the game. Northwestern’s Sam Byrne scored both goals for the Highlanders. Emma Beltrandi made two saves in the shut out. Wamogo’s Jessie Allendorf made six saves, putting her at 204 saves for the season.

Nonnewaug 1, Thomaston 0 >> Nonnewaug earned its 15th victory and the BL title after shutting out Thomaston. The Chiefs’ Rachael Horrocks scored the lone goal for Nonnewaug. Thomaston’s Nicole Petruzzi made 6 saves. Nonnewaug is 15-0-0-1, Thomaston is 13-1-0-1.

Girls soccer

Lewis Mills 3, Litchfield 0 >> Lewis Mills finished the regular season undefeated after shutting out Litchfield. The Spartans’ Bailey Pace, Emily Nepomuceno and Anna Marinelli each scored a goal in the victory. Taylor Anderson made three saves in the win. Litchfield’s Shelby Elwell made 17 stops. Lewis Milsl is 16-0.

Housatonic 2, Shepaug 0 >> Housatonic shut out Shepaug. The Mountaineers’ Lauren Segalla and Chloe Dakers scored a goal in the victory. Jillian Cannon made nine saves. Shepaug’s Samantha Moravsky made 14 stops.

Northwestern 1, Gilbert 0 (OT) >> Northwestern edged Gilbert to keep its tournament hopes alive. The Highlanders’ Kaitlyn Solak scored the lone goal with two minutes remaining in the first overtime period. Morgan Gillette assisted on the play. Gilbert’s Lexi Dunning made 14 saves. Northwestern is 6-9, Gilbert is 0-14-1.

Girls volleyball

Terryville 3, Wolcott Tech 0 >> Terryville defeated Wolcott Tech in straight sets at home. The Kangaroos won (25-18; 25-20; 25-11). Terryville’s Bailey Doran had 12 kills, 14 digs and four aces. Libby Rrahimi had 11 kills, 19 digs and one ace. The Wildcats’ Casey Farrington had 13 assists and three aces. Haley Farrington had two aces and 12 digs.
