Olivia Sprague had nine aces and two kills, and Kyra Culup had three aces and eight kills for Middletown (2-6). Kenya Anselme had three blocks and three kills, while Lourdes Casiano had two kills and one ace for Bulkeley (0-6).
Mercy 3, Sacred Heart 1 >> The Tigers improved to 7-1 with a 25-21, 14-25, 25-20 and 25-21 SCC victory at Middletown. Shytasia Williams had 13 digs, Morgan Cahill had 13 kills, and Jessica Hoops had 41 assists for Mercy. Shannon Bissell had 25 assists, Abby Agresta had eight kills, while Maryanne Bowman had six blocks and 10 kills for the Pacers (3-5).
Morgan 3, Coginchaug 1 >> The Huskies reamined unbeaten with a 25-12, 25-14, 18-25 and 25-12 win at Durham. Ashlyn Chidsey had three aces and 18 service points, while Katie Anderson had 10 kills for Morgan (9-0). Caitlin Sibiskie collected 13 kills and eight blocks, while Carolyn Fetchel had 24 digs for the Blue Devils (5-3).
North Branford 3, Cromwell 2 >> Kayla Nowak had 17 kills and three blocks to lead the visiting Thunderbirds (2-6) past the Panthers 22-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, and 15-13. Stephanie Hartnett had 11 kills, 14 digs and six aces, Lauren Schmitt had 24 assists and four digs, and Araya Lessard had 13 digs, nine kills and three blocks for the Panthers (2-7).
Hale-Ray 3, Valley Regional 0 >> The Little Noises swept the Warriors 25-18, 25-23, and 25-18 at Moodus. Tara Schwenzfeier had 12 assits and two aces, while Andrea Wordell had four kills for Hale-Ray (6-3). Leah Sopneski had 10 digs and six kills, and Sophie Cullina collected four aces and seven digs for Valley Regional (4-5).
Mercy 2, Bacon Academy 0 >> Olivia Ozycz and Shannon Hickey had one goal apiece to lead the Tigers in a non-league contest Monday afternoon at Colchester. Ryan Miela had an assist and goalie Alyssa Morrisey made six saves for Mercy (5-1), which outshot the Bobcats, 31-11. Goalie Kiley Fink had 10 saves for Bacon Academy (2-3-2).
Old Saybrook 6, Westbrook 0 >> Molly Beck had a hat trick and goalie Mia Neas made three saves for the visiting Rams. Arianna Heonis, Lizzie O’Brien, and Nicole Valente scored goals for Old Saybrook (4-2-2).
Girls Cross Country
Mercy places sixth at Ocean Invitational >> The Mercy cross country team placed sixth out of 25 teams from all over the Northeast region in the Ocean State Invitational Saturday at East Greenwich (R.I.). Kaleigh Roberts led the Tigers by finishing third in the Varsity 2 division. Roberts ran 19:01 for the 5k course. Bridgid Selfors (13th) and Mackenzie Pias (28th) also earned medals for Mercy. Also scoring for the Tigers were Hannah Albert, Janine Mouland, Melanie Cirillo, and Mikayla Mooney.
Wesleyan 3, Rivier 1 >> Kim Farris had 18 kills and Rachel Savage led the defense with 21 digs in the Cardinals’ 25-16, 15-25, 25-22 and 28-26 win Saturday afternoon at Middletown. Kate Centofanti had 12 kills for Wesleyan (3-9). Molly McCormack had 14 kills for Rivier (10-5).
