DURHAM — Since losing its first game in the District 4 tournament, the Milford 12-under softball has been rollin’.
Milford won its next 10 games to advance to the Connecticut Little League Softball championship game on Monday.
Now, make it 11 straight wins.
Judy Tarczali and Mya Dawid each had two hits and two RBIs and pitcher Madyson Bull struck out eight and allowed one hit to lead Milford to a 10-0 win over Waterford at Atwell Field in a game that went only four innings due to the mercy rule.
Milford advances to the Eastern Regional tournament in Bristol with its first game on Saturday against either Vermont or New Hampshire.
Haley Stroffolino added an RBI triple and Grace Hess had a two-run single for Milford.
“This was our fourth game in a row where we were the visitors and each game we put up runs early,” Milford manager Scott Worzel said. “Everybody has worked so hard for this and everyone has contributed. Madyson was in a good rhythm with her fastball and even used her changeup a couple times.
“So many girls had big hits for us. Haley shows up every game for us and I wasn’t surprised she got that triple. It’s a pretty good feeling to get to the regional and we plan to make the best of it.”
Milford set the tone early.
In the top of first inning, Dawid had an RBI double and Hess added an RBI-producing sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the first inning, Bull struck out the side.
The offense continued in the second inning. Stroffolino belted her RBI triple, Tarczali added an RBI single and Hess had a two-run single to give Milford a 6-0 lead.
“To be honest, I was nervous but I really wanted to hit a home run in that spot,” Stroffolino said. “But I’m just as happy with a triple.It was really exciting to get that hit and contribute to the team. This is a great feeling, I’m so happy to be going to the Regional.”
Tarczali padded the Milford lead in the third inning with and RBI single for a 7-0 lead.
Milford scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 10-0 lead and seal the win.
Alexa Collins had the lone hit for Waterford with a double in the first inning.
