Shoreline Conference tournament >> Coginchaug senior Nikki Woznyk and junior Jess Coughlin captured the SLC Doubles Championship on Thursday. Woznyk and Coughlin defeated Old Lyme’s Marissa Smith and Shannon Nosal, 6-3, 7-5, in the final.
Woznyk and Coughlin topped Blue Devils teammates Paige Larkin and Christine Rizzo, 6-2, 6-2, in the semifinals, while Smith and Nosal advanced with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Valley Regional’s Ellie Flynn and Maddie Ball in the other semifinal.
Westbrook junior Casey Burns won the 1 and 2 Singles Championship. Burns topped Haddam-Killingworth’s Emily Beck, 6-4, 6-1, in the final.
Burns defeated East Hampton’s Aitana Morales, 6-0, 6-0, in the semifinals, while Beck also earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over North Branford’s Gabby Augur in the other semifinal.
Old Saybrook junior Erin Stangel edged Westbrook’s Sara Farnoli, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), to win the 3 and 4 Singles Championship. Stangel bested teammate Isabella Luciani, 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals, while Farnoli topped Valley Regional’s Callie Riggio, 6-1, 6-2, in the other semifinal.
North Branford 13, Haddam-Killingworth 1 >> The top-seeded Thunderbirds advanced to the SLC championship game with a semifinal home win Friday at Totoket Park. North Branford (21-1) will meet No. 2 Coginchaug (17-5) today (1 p.m.) at Old Lyme High School.
Cheshire 3, Xavier 1 >> James Marinaccio had 12 kills and five digs, while Josh Chen had 32 assists to lead the host Rams (14-5) to a 17-25, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-23 SCC semifinal win on Wednesday.
Cameron DeChalus had eight kills and 10 digs, while Sean Monaghan collected 24 kills for the Falcons (10-9).
The teams meet again at Cheshire in the opening round of the Class L state tournament on Wednesday, June 1 at 7 p.m.
