BRISTOL >> Colin Lemieux hit a two-run home run and pitched five strong innings with six strikeouts to lift Warwick (R.I.) over Fairfield American, 5-1, in the New England Little League Regional championship game Saturday afternoon.
Lemieux finished with three RBIs for Rhode Island (3-0). He also had an RBI double.
The victory vaults Rhode Island to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. where the state will have a representative for the third-consecutive year. Warwick follows Cranston Western (2015) and Cumberland American (2014).
Michael Iannazzo had two hits, including a double, and scored a run for Fairfield American, which finished the tournament 3-2. Matt Longo pitched 4 1/3 innings and struck out four, but took the loss.
Domenic Brazeau and Sean Gallagher also had RBIs for Rhode Island.
Fairfield American was trying to reach the Little League World Series for the first time since 2012 and for the third time in six years.
