OLD SAYBROOK >> Gilbert/Northwestern football’s playoff chances dipped in a 35-7 loss at Old Saybrook/Westbrook Saturday afternoon.
The Yellowjackets, 7-2, went from eighth in the Class M rankings to 10th with one game remaining on the schedule, Thanksgiving morning against Waterbury Career.

“(The Rams) were bigger and more physical than we are,” said G/N coach Scott Salius after Old Saybrook/Westbrook ran the ball 55 times for 308 yards. “With
Chase Cook as their main weapon, they basically pounded it down our throats.”
The Rams, 7-1, are currently eighth in Class S with two games left.
Class M Quarterfinal
No. 5 Brookfield 4, No. 4 Lewis Mills 3 >> Carter Birdsall, Mike Santos and Sam Stuek gave the Bobcats a 3-0 lead at Nassahegan Field before two goals from Joe Fortuna and one from Lorenz Gunzl tied the score with 15 minutes left.
Working toward overtime, Brookfield’s Assande Dubanza broke through for a goal with 1:15 left.
One final blast from Mills sailed just over the crossbar with 20 seconds left.
The Spartans finish their season 17-3. Brookfield, 16-1-2, plays No. 16 Tolland in the semifinals at a neutral site next week.
Class S Quarterfinal
No. 4 Notre Dame-Fairfield 4, No. 5 Wamogo 3 >> Warrior star Mevlan Lebiti scored an unassisted goal in the first half at Notre Dame-Fairfield, then the Lancers took over.
Felipe Canzien scored the first of his three goals on a penalty kick. Carlos Lopez gave Notre Dame a 2-1 halftime advantage.
Canzian scored two more goals in the second half.
Wamogo finishes its season 11-8. The Lancers, 13-2-4, move on to a neutral-site semifinal against No. 1 Old Saybrook next week.
