TORRINGTON >> Torrington’s boys swimming team made up for an opening relay loss to Woodland, winning all but two of the meet’s next nine events for a season-opening 90-78 win at the Torrington YMCA Wednesday night.
Torrington winners were JT Barth (2), Curtis Ledda, Viktor Nemesvari (2), Jackson Keller (2) and Nemesvari, Barth, Ledda and Keller in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Woodland’s Jake Stow won the backstroke. The Hawks took the final event after Torrington stopped scoring.
Northwestern 91, Lewis Mills 80 >> Defending Berkshire League Champion Northwestern graduated 20 swimmers last year and still took off where it left off in the co-ed league with its season-opening win at the Winsted YMCA. Beginning with a win in the 200-meter medley relay by Kelly Stotler, Caroline Crone, Cassidy Stotler and Sydney Johnston, the Highlanders went on to individual wins by Derek Tomlin, Lukas Gryniuk, Ashton Morrell, Kelly Stotler and Alex Bannerman as well as two more relay wins by Tomlin, Ryuan Persechino, Kelly Stotler and Gryniuk and Persechino, Kelly Stotler, Gruniuk and Austin Royer.
The Spartans had individual wins by Aubrey Surian and Aidan O’Connor.
Terryville 72, Thomaston/Holy Cross/Litchfield 12 >> The Kangaroos lost two forfeits, then won the rest of its matches by forfeit or pins. Bailey McCann, Josh Wright, Jason Hume, Josh Anderson and Jake Borda scored the pins.
Terryville 45, Morgan 21 >> In its second match of the night, Terryville got pins from Jarrod Ashe and Canaan Cossu-Fredericks and a decision from Josh Wright.
Trevor Follo and Anthony smith had pins for the Huskies. Austin Dailey won a decision.
Nonnewaug 66, Rocky Hill 48 >> Nonnewaug’s Kelvin Cenkolli, Justin Noel, Nickolas Sordi and Steve Grudzien had pins at Nonnewaug. Mason Williamson added a decision for the Chiefs.
The Terriers had pins from Mohamed Bilai, Joseph Ferreira, Brandon Pastula and Nathan Doll.
Northwestern 54, Derby 24 >> Northwestern pins at Derby High School came from Aiden Bannerman, Angelo Folino, Liam Smith, James Guion, Josh Schwartz and Gabe Schwartz.
The Red Raiders got a pin from Jake Ferguson and decisions from Jordan Stefancin and Mike Szwaja.
Gilbert 45, East Hampton 42 >> The Yellowjackets (4-3) handed East Hampton(6-1) its first loss in a squeaker at East Hampton behind 15 points from Jill Wexler and 12 from Liz Wexler.
Gianna Russell scored 25 for the Bellringers.
