WINSTED >> Northwestern boys basketball (9-2) blasted out of a close game with Shepaug (5-8) with a huge fourth quarter at Northwestern High School Thursday evening for a 68-50 win.
Leading just 48-42 after three quarters against the Spartans, the Highlanders flew home with a 20-8 final period.
Sheldon Green led the effort with 14 points, followed by three others in double figures: Chris Nanni, 12 points; Ben North, 11; and Zach Plitt, 10.
Eamon Crossley (12 points), Kyle Lamay (12 points) and Sean Welsh (10 points) stood out for Shepaug.
Northwestern 58, Shepaug 42 >> Shepaug (0-13) put up a stiff battle at home behind 18 points from Lucy Puskas and 11 from Avery Serra.
But the Highlanders (8-5) are on a three-game roll that includes wins over Lewis Mills and Thomaston. Led by Addie Hester (19 points) and Emma Propfe (16), Northwestern wasn’t about to let this one go.
Crosby 53, Terryville 27 >> The Kangaroos got a taste of the NVL at Terryville High School.
Da’Ahjah and Tiahna Pullian scored 17 apiece for the Bulldogs.
Zoe Jabs had 11 for Terryville.
