BURLINGTON >> Lewis Mills girls soccer won an early-season showdown 3-0 against Housatonic, another pre-season Berkshire League favorite, Tuesday night at Burlington’s Nasahegan Field.
Facing a Mountaineer team whose biggest star, Lauren Segalla, is out until next month recovering from an ACL tear last winter, the Spartans took the upper hand just 4:25 into the game.
Senior Julia Robillard slashed across the defense, caroming a shot off Housy defender Molly Dowd (14 saves). Chloe Waldron, trailing the play, popped the rebound into the net.
“We came out hard and fast,” said Mills Coach Dennis Fowler. “We gained the emotional momentum and never gave it up.”
Nursing the 1-0 halftime lead, Robillard hooked a left-foot shot over Dowd’s head 10:49 into the second half. Three minutes later, Robillard slid a ball into the box for Wrabel, who blasted it into the net for the clincher.
Litchfield 2, Thomaston 0 >> Caroline Donovan and Ali O’Neill had first-half goals for the Cowgirls at the Plumb Hill Complex. Sydney Donohue and Ruth Pellegrino scored in the second.
Thomaston goalie Camryn Capaldo had 14 saves for the Golden Bears.
Terryville 3, Shepaug 1 >> Terryville’s Joanna Johnson started the scoring at Shepaug (0-2) with a penalty kick midway through the first half. Spartan Grace Wagnblas tied it five minutes before the half off a free kick.
Jenna Covella put the game away for the Kangaroos (2-0) with two goals in the second half.
Nonnewaug 1, Northwestern 0 >> Emily Winged scored the lone goal at Nonnewaug, assisted by Emma Yocis in the second half. The Chiefs outshot Northwestern 25-9, but Highlander goalie Maggie Dougan hung in with 14 saves. The Chiefs are 2-0; Northwestern is 0-2.
Wamogo 6, Gilbert 1 >> The Yellowjackets held Wamogo to 1-1 in the first half behind a goal by Kyle Valickis, but the Warriors exploded in the second half.
Ryan DeLello finished the game with three goals; Colby Weik had two; and Jason Marika one. Kevin Fenn had two assists; Reid Turtoro had one.
Gilbert keeper Hunter Smith had 12 saves.

Terryville 0, Shepaug 0 >> The Kangaroos (1-0-1) and Spartans (0-1-1) stood each other off at Terryville with 6 shots apiece and 4 saves by Terryville keeper Josh Mazur, 5 by Shepaug goalie Alan Stinson.

Lewis Mills 19, Litchfield 38 >> Nick O’Brien (18:43), Owen Lacourciere and Joey Vecchio finished one-two-three for the Spartans at home. Levi Dawiczyk, Michio Agresta and Jake Lyga backed them up with fifth, eighth and 10th finishes.
Litchfield’s Antonio Muratori, Jon Stevens, Jon Dieck and Mateo Tiul were fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth.
Torrington 25, Sacred Heart 32; St. Paul 28, Torringtxon 29; St. Paul 25, Sacred Heart 36 >> Torrington’s Josh Ivain, Anthony Sidharta, Billy Weber and Matt Lovetere were third, fifth, eighth and ninth at Waterbury’s 3.05-mile Montoe Park course.

Gilbert’s Farouz Alahwas and Jordan Brugmann were wixth and seventh. Wamogo’s Stanley Nerkowski and Tyler Giggey rounded out the top 10 in eighth and 10th over the 3.1-mile course.
Northwestern 15, Housatonic 50; Shepaug 15, Houisatonic 50; Shepaug 22, Thomaston 34 >> Shepaug’s Sean Parker (16:42) won at Housatonic, with teammates Sean Welsh and Chandler Weatherbee in foiurth and sixth. Thomaston’s Steve Scougall was third. Northwestern took all the other top-10 spots, with Gavin Woodward second, Connor Spencer fifth; Sam Schiffer seventh; and Sean Labbe, Chris Mangini and Brandon Beland in the last three spots.
Girls Cross Country
Torrington 22, Sacred Heart 36; St. Paul 27, Torrington 29; St. Paul 23, Sacred Heart 37 >> Torrington’s Ariana Santos was the overall winner at Waterbury’s Montoe Park in 22:17 over the 3.05-mile course.
Gabrielle Vega was third. Anna Clinkscales was seventh.

Housatonic 18, Northwestern 45; Sousatonic 24, Shepaug 33; Shepaug 17, Thomaston 40 >> Housatonic’s Mari Cullerton (20:32), Emily Sullivan, Eve Cullerton, Kyra Cullerton and Alison Holmes dotted the top 10 at Housatonic in first, third, fifth, eighth and 10th place. Shepaug’s Emma Krebs, Aileen Rosa, Lauren Bresson and Ali Parker were second, sixth, seventh and ninth. Northwestern’s Christina Gubetta broke in at fourth.
Lewis Mills 23, Litchfield 38 >> Litchfield’s Hannah Curran (22:31) finished first at Lewis Mills, but Spartans Allison Moore, Lauren Alvarez, Jordan Butler, Sophie Zipoli, Katherine Collen, Kathleen Keegan, Catherine KiLernia and Molly Bailot dominated all but one of the other top-10 spots.
Cowgirl Claudia DeMatteis was fourth.
Wamogo 8, Housatonic 0 >> Hannah Lettau had a hat trick (3 goals) at home. Hailey Hotchkiss, Chloe Ackerman, Sydney Cardello, Kasey Ackerman and Jackie Weik joined her with a goal apiece.
