WOODBURY >> Housatonic’s boys tennis team captured the regular-season Berkshire League Championship with a 3-2 win over Nonnewaug in Woodbury Wednesday afternoon.
The Mountaineers (16-0) ended Nonnewaug’s long winning streak with a win over the Chiefs (14-2) earlier this season. With Wednesday’s win, they bring the end of a long BL championship reign as well.
Jonathan Miller won his match at first singles. Max Vadakin and Mo Elserafy and Justin Gomez and Moustafa Sakr swept the doubles to finish the job.
Andrew Ray and Jacob Matta won at second and third singles for Nonnewaug.
Wamogo 14, O’Brien Tech 0 >> The Warriors (10-10) pounded the Condors (8-12) behind Jeff Aeschlimann (3 hits, 2 doubles, 3 RBI); Jake Rosko (3 hits, 2 doubles, 2 RBI); Pete Schneider (2 doubles, 2 RBI); Emmett Wojtczak (2 hits, 3 RBI); and Nick Michanczyk (2 hits at O’Brien Tech.
Jordan Bergs struck out 11 while scattering 6 hits.
Matt Belino (2 hits) and Mike Macary (2 hits, double) were O’Brien’s leaders.
Terryville 6, Gilbert 3 >> In the first game of a double header at Walker Field, Gilbert scored three runs in the first inning on triples by Garrett Lombardo and Tim Smith.
Then Terryville pitcher Doug Thome shut the Yellowjackets down on just one more hit in the game while his own batters took over, scoring five in the second , one in the fifth and two more in the seventh.
Connor Levins (3-for-4, double, RBI) and Ariel Batista (2-for-4, double, RBI) were the Kangaroos’ big hitters.
Terryville is 10-10.
Thomaston 12, Gilbert 0 >> Morgan Sanson threw a no-hitter at Thomaston with 17 strikeouts.
Alexa Milius (2-for-3, 2 RBI); Sanson (2 RBI); Julia Romaniello (double); Kaitlyn Root (RBI); and Nicole Schaefer (2-for-3) provided the firepower at bat.
Litchfield 174, Wamogo 192, Nonnewaug 198 >> Litchfield’s Nathan Leigh came through with a medalist 39 at par-35 Stonybrook Golf Course, leading Chandler Boucher (42); Chris Parsons (44); and Donnie Protzmann (49) to the win.
Sean Brady had a 42 for Wamogo, followed by C.J. Schullery (47) and Dalton Hubball (49).
Bret Stokes (46) and Jey Herman (44) were low for the Chiefs.
Litchfield is 13-2; Nonnewaug 10-5; Wamogo 3 -13.
Lewis Mills 163, Gilbert 205 >> The Spartans finished an undefeated Berkshire League season (16-0) for their second league title in a row.
Tyler Goulet shot a one-under-par 35 at Fairview Farm, followed by Andrew LeBlanc (41), Mike Boucher (42) and Matt Szymanski (45).
Gilbert’s Conor Bailey had a 38.
Lewis Mills 3, NFA 0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-10) >> Ben Lewis (17 kills, 14 digs, 2 blocks); Anthony Licata (10 kills, 10 digs); and Lorenz Gunzl (31 assists) led the
Spartans (12-4) to the win at home. NFA is 3-13.
Lewis Mills 6, Housatonic 1 >> Kristen Angiletta, Jenna Gabrielson, Erica Robinson, Kayleigh Watson, Emily Burzynski/Kara Schatz; and Abbey Shafer/Lauren McCard swept throught the first six matches. Mountaineers Anna Coon and Maddie Dewar won at No. 3 doubles.
