Saturday is CIAC championship day for field hockey, boys and girls soccer and girls volleyball – a good time for updating Northwest Corner’s state tournament performances so far.

Thomaston’s field hockey team looks for the area’s second state championship in tomorrow’s Class S finals at noon at Wethersfield High School.

Shepaug’s boys Class S cross country team was the first, in the Class Meets on Halloween.

As tournament season approaches the finish line, here’s how top area teams and individuals have fared, sport by sport.

Cross Country

Boys

Class M – Northwestern 6. Peter Bakker, 3; Gavin Woodward, 4.

Class SS – Terryville 5. Connor Levins, 2.

Class S – Shepaug – State Champion. Ed Wolfe, 2; Erik Quist 3. Thomaston 5. Litchfield 7.

Girls

Class M – Nonnewaug 3. Lewis Mills 8.

Class S – Houstonic 5. Shepaug 10.

Field Hockey

Class M

First Round – Nonnewaug 12-4-0-1.

Class S

First Round – Shepaug 10-7.

Quarterfinals – Lewis Mills 13-4-0-1.

Of note: This year’s triple overtime loss to Thomaston was the reverse of last year’s quarterfinal when Mills beat Thomaston in double overtime on the way to a state championship.

Finals – No. 1 Thomaston (17-1) vs. No. 3 Haddam-Killingworth (17-2), Saturday Noon, Wethersfield High School.

Football

Quarterfinals are December 1 for the top eight teams in each division at the higher seed’s field.

Class L

Torrington 8-1, currently No. 5.

Of note: The Red Raiders are locked into their first state playoff appearance since 1983, though rankings may change. Torrington’s final regular-season game is Thanksgiving morning at 4-5 Watertown. If current rankings stay in place, the Raiders would play at No. 4 Windsor December 1.

Class M

Lewis Mills 5-3, currently No. 12.

Of note: Remaining games against 3-5 Stafford/East Windsor/Somers tomorrow and 5-4 Nonnewaug Thanksgiving morning.

Gilbert/Northwestern 4-4, currently No. 14

Of note: Remaining games against 1-8 SMSA/University and 3-6 Coginchaug Thanksgiving morning.

Boys Soccer

Class M

First Round – Northwestern 10-4-3. Wolcott Tech 5-9-3.

Semifinals – Lewis Mills 17-1-1. Nonnewaug 15-2-2.

Of note: With a solid chance for an all-Berkshire League final, No. 1 Mills lost to No. 4 Tolland on penalty kicks after a 20-minute overtime; No. 2 Nonnewaug lost to No. 3 Bacon Academy in overtime.

Class S

First Round – Terryville 7-8-2.

Second Round – Wamogo 9-7-2.

Of note: No. 17 Wamogo took No. 1 Morgan to overtime before losing.

Semifinals – Litchfield 12-6-2.

Of note: Litchfield was ranked No. 13. Coach Rob Andrulis said, “This is all gravy,” when his Cowboys played their way to the semifinals.

Girls Soccer

Class M

First Round – Northwestern 9-7-1.

Second Round – Nonnewaug 14-4.

Quarterfinals – Lewis Mills 16-2.

Of note: Berkshire League co-champion Mills took Bethel to overtime before bowing out.

Class S

First Round – Litchfield 6-10-1.

Quarterfinals – Housatonic 16-2. Terryville 11-8.

Of note: No. 8 Holy Cross stunned No. 1 Housy on penalty kicks following a 20-minute overtime. The Mountaineers, Class S finalists last year, were expected to make a strong run again this year. Still young, the expectations are high again for next year.

Girls Swimming and Diving

Class M

Torrington – 17.

Girls Volleyball

Class L

Second Round – Torrington 17-3.

Class M

First Round – Northwestern 12-7.
