Legion season is heating up and some of the top teams in the state are starting to emerge. Branford got the brooms out, Middletown bounced Berlin and Orange Post 127 took a trip to the Ocean State.
How Sweep It Is >> Branford yet again has the toughest team in Zone 2. One year removed from its Northeast Regional title and World Series appearance, Post 83 is undefeated and swept rival Orange Post 127 last week. It took Branford 10 innings to complete the sweep, but thanks to a run in the top of the 10th stanza Branford walked away with another victory.
Going To The Beach! >> Or the baseball field if you’re Orange Post 127. The team took a trip to Rhode Island for the Firecracker Invitational. Post 127 played at the University of Rhode Island’s baseball field and returns to its Zone 2 schedule Sunday against East Haven in a double-header.
Trip, Trip, TRIPLE!! >> Lawrence Hill was a stud for Xavier during the high school season. Hill displayed why lacing a two-run triple to lead Middletown Post 75 over Berlin 3-1 in the opener of a four-game set. The two rivals butted heads all series with the average margin of victory being a slim 1.7 runs per contest. Post 175 came out on top three out of the four games and sits atop Zone 3.
Meriden is firing on all cylinders, and they can dance a little bit too. … West Haven is not playing this season, but that could change next year. East Haven is gaining ground in Zone 2. Branford’s pitching was stellar last season. What do ya know, it is this year, too!
