Lauralton Hall approves move to SCC

Joe Morelli | October 4, 2013

Lauralton Hall sent out a release on Friday announcing it has accepted the move to the SCC.

The all-girls Milford school had officially been voted into the SCC on Wednesday. Laurlton currently resides in the SWC.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our student athletes,” said Lauralton Hall President Antoinette Iadarola.  “The SCC offers some excellent opportunities that will benefit our students such as their diversity program, their leadership program, and their programs in music and fine arts.   It expands opportunities for us and with our mission and strategic direction.”

Lauralton Hall is scheduled to join the SCC on July 1, 2014.  The last schools to join the SCC as full-time members were Law and Foran in 2004. Both also came from the SWC.

“The SCC is a better fit for us overall,” Lauralton’s Interim Athletic Director Judith Gallagher said in a statement.  “Not only are the other Milford high schools in the SCC, there are also more schools similar to us, such as Sacred Heart Academy and Mercy High School. … One of the issues we needed to consider was the travel distance to other schools in the conference. When we did the analysis, we found that travel to schools in the SCC is easier than our current situation.”
