WATERBURY — Mike Kreiger threw for three touchdowns as Derby outlasted Wilby in a 44-33 NVL shootout Thursday night.
Derby (3-0) took a 14-0 lead just minutes into the game on Tyrae Small’s 26-yard run and Josh Russell’s fumble recovery in the end zone.
Those proved to be the decisive points as Wilby rallied several times, but never got closer than eight points.
Kreiger was 16-of-20 and 207 yards passing. Small had three of Derby’s four interceptions and Sal Frosceno caught four passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
Wilby quarterback Darrein Bell threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more.
Wilby fell to 2-1.
