It will be an All-Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) battle Sunday for the 2018 New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class C Girls Volleyball title between King School and Greens Farms Academy. The game will be at King School at 1 p.m.
No. 1 seed King School (18-2 overall) earned its berth in Sunday’s final by sweeping No. 5 seed MacDuffie School, 3-0 at home in Saturday’s semifinal.
The 2018 NEPSAC Class C final will be hosted by King School.
King rallied to defeat MacDuffie in five sets in Granby, Mass. in the 2017 NEPSAC Class C volleyball final.
On Saturday, King jumped out to a 19-8 edge and went on to win Game 1 easily. King took Game 2 by 25-11 and rallied to take Game 3 by 25-23.
No. 3 seed Greens Farms Academy (16-5 overall) earned its spot in the final by downing No. 2 seed Winchendon (Mass.), 3-2 on the road in Saturday’s semifinal.
GFA won Game 1 by 25-23 and Game 2 by 25-20 for a 2-0 edge. Winchendon (11-1) took Game 3 by 25-16 and Game 4 by 25-17.
Game 5 was tied 15-15 before GFA took control with two straight points for the triumph.
Standouts for GFA included Kirwin Carey (32 kills), Meg Nesi (46 assists), Kristiana Modzelewski (11 kills) and Alex Nason (12 digs).
Ironically, Winchendon was the last school to defeat King in NEPSAC Class C championship play. Winchendon ousted King in the 2014 NEPSAC semifinals at home.
On Sunday, King will be vying for its fourth consecutive NEPSAC Class C volleyball championship.
Sunday will mark the third time that King and GFA have met on the volleyball court this season.
GFA topped King, 3-0 back on October 13 on what was GFA’s Homecoming Day. King beat GFA, 3-0 on October 20, which was King’s Homecoming Day.
KING BOYS SOCCER FALLS IN NEPSAC SEMIS
The King School boys soccer team lost 5-1 Saturday to Millbrook School in the NEPSAC Class C Boys Soccer semifinals.
King trailed 2-0 at halftime.
