WELCOME BACK to the final 2019 episode of Inside the Circle, GameTimeCT’s high school softball podcast and it’s the end of the road. The season is over. This is the last podcast of the year.
The state champions have been crowned with Southington, Masuk, Waterford and Somers (first time!) bringing home CIAC championship plaques and, just yesterday, Masuk was crowned the state’s No. 1 team for the second-consecutive year.
So it’s time to take a look back at some of the top games — all of them — and top performances of championship weekend, including Masuk senior Sam Schiebe’s 15-strikeout performance in out-dueling East Haven sophomore phenom Tori Heaphy (one of the stories of the tournament) in a tight Class L final; Southington holding off Norwich Free Academy in Class LL; Waterford holding off perennial champ Seymour in Class M; Somers rallying past Coginchaug in Class S.
Hosts Ryan Lacey and Sean Patrick Bowley break it all down and discuss the final Top 10 poll and whether they thought all the voters got the rankings correct and even take a look at the way-too-early top teams of 2020.
It was a wonderful season, thanks for joining us all year as we talked softball and a special shoutout to all the teams and the coaches who joined us at various points of the year. We were glad to bring it to you.
Have a great summer!
