WELCOME BACK to another episode of Inside the Circle, your weekly audio dose of Connecticut high school softball. It’s the long awaited STATE PLAYOFF edition, where hosts Ryan Lacey and Sean Patrick Bowley look back at the week’s conference championship games and see what they tell us about how the state tournaments will play out.
Ryan and Sean make their final four picks for each bracket and discuss some of the teams and players who will have an impact.
This week’s special guest star is NICK DELIZIO, the head coach of the newly-minted, five-time Shoreline Conference championship North Branford softball team.
DeLizio tells us how his T-Birds were able to overcome several key graduation losses and survive a roller-coaster season, to win their fifth-straight SLC title.

The regular season included a 1-game suspension as coach for DeLizio. Before the interview, he declined to comment on the suspension and the specifics of it, although sources have informed us it dealt with conduct during the team’s senior day.
The head coach instead wanted to focus on the team and talked about its run to another SLC title and its prospects for making a run in a stacked Class M bracket. The T-Birds begin the tournament with a tough, first-round game at Lauralton Hall.
