NEW YORK >> Just two days after setting a meet record at the Class S Indoor State meet, the Coginchaug 4×800 relay apparently still had a lot left in them.
Saturday afternoon at the Armory in New York City, The relay team of Bailey Thayer, Allie Alsup, Samantha Drop and Jessica Drop finished in an impressive fourth place at the prestigious Millrose Games, running a personal best time of nine minutes and 19.61 seconds.
The winning time was 9:09.36 set by Mamaroneck of New York.
The time now moves the Blue Devils’ to at least top 10 in the nation, and still leads the state of Connecticut as the No. 1 time.
Coginchaug will next compete on Saturday at the State Open at the Floyd Little Athletic Center. The state record is 9:14.91 set in 2013 by Hillhouse.
On Friday evening, Danae Rivers of Wilbur Cross won the 1,000, 1,600 and ran the anchor leg on the winning 4×400 relay, helping lead her team to a Class L state title.
Saturday evening, she followed that up with a season-best time in the mile. Rivers finished in fourth place in 4:53.87.
Wilton’s Spencer Brown took 12th in the mile (4:31.80).
