Except for a season-opening 4-2 loss to Hamden, the Darien boys hockey team has been a tough nut to crack this season.
The Blue Wave have certainly sent a message that it means business in the postseason, going 7-1-1 against teams that are currently ranked or have been ranked in the New Haven Register/GameTimeCT Top 10 poll this season.
No. 6 Notre Dame-Fairfield (9-4-1) hosts No. 1 Darien (16-1-1) in the Blue Wave’s regular-season finale at a high-profile venue. The game will be played Saturday at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport at 1 p.m.
The strength of the Blue Wave is on defense led by six returning defensemen — Jack Massie, Sam Knowlton, Brendan Cassidy, Nick Allam, Nick Tuzinkiewicz and Adam Loh. Michael Colon has made an impact in his first season as a starter.
The offense also has depth and is led by forward Tommy Watters.
The Lancers have experience with 13 returning seniors led by Christian LaCroix, Garret Gintoli and Dan Walsh at forward and Greg Ferris and Pete Lemere on defense.
