Clutch foul shooting from Michelle Morganti lifted the Greenwich High School girls basketball team to a 54-47 win over host Westhill in a game held on Friday night.
Morganti, a senior guard, shot 14 of 16 from the foul line and finished with a game-high 16 points for the Cardinals (4-12). The score was tied at 30-30 at halftime, but the Cardinals outscored the Vikings, 13-5, during the third quarter to take a 43-35 advantage.
Freshman guard Kristin Riggs added 10 points, while junior forward Julia Conforti chipped in nine points for Greenwich. Kelly Martyanov, a freshman forward, had seven points, while junior forward Ciara Munnelly scored five points for the Cardinals.
Maddy Bautista had 11 points and Jaedyn Carty added 10 points for Westhill (2-14).

Brunswick snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 64-42 road win against FAA foe King School on Friday.
Holding a 26-18 lead at the half, the Bruins built a double-digit lead in the second half and on their way to the victory.
Colin Mulshine scored a career-high 26 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Bruins. Chisom Okpara added 13 points, while Tristan Joseph chipped in nine points for the victors. Sam Mazzullo contributed eight points in the winning effort.
The Bruins (3-12, 2-8) host Hopkins School on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Brunswick dropped a 2-0 decision in to Albany Academy in a game held Friday night at Hartong Rink.
Following a scoreless first period, the Cadets got on the board just past the midpoint of the second period with a goal at the 8:16 mark.
Holding a 1-0 lead late into the third period, Albany added an empty-netter in the final minute for the 2-0 win.
Brunswick is back in action Wednesday against visiting Lawrenceville School.
GREENWICH HIGH BOYS SWIMMING
The Cardinals made it a perfect 10-0, swimming past host Trumbull in a meet held on Friday.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Cardinals’ Alex Plavoukos, Ryan Jee, Jack Jee and Alex Hanna post a first-place finish in 1:47.37. The 200 freestyle saw Thomas Cass register a winning time of 1:50.50. Jack Jee was the 200 individual medley winner in 2:06.86, while Liam Crecca of Trumbull touched the wall first in 22.42 in the 50 freestyle.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Greenwich’s Alex Plavoukos, won in 57.42. Ryan Jee finished first in the 100 freestyle (51.59) and Cardinals teammate Thomas Cass took first in the 500 freestyle (5:04.59).
Greenwich’s 200 freestyle relay squad of Thomas Hoffmeister, Spencer Plavoukos, Thomas Cass and Ryan Jee combined for a winning time of 1:36.79. Jack Jee provided a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke (58.11), while Matt Lourenco of the Cardinals placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.85).
The meet concluded with the 10-0 Cardinals winning the 400 freestyle relay. Cass, Spencer Plavoukos, Alex Plavoukos, and Jack Jee posted a time of 3:37.56.
GREENWICH ACADEMY HOCKEY
Behind four first-period goals, Greenwich Academy skated to a convincing 5-0 victory over Newton Country Day School in a road game held on Friday.
Bobbi Roca opened the scoring for Greenwich Academy with 14:48 remaining in the first period. Hamilton Doster made it 2-0, tallying with 13:36 to go in the opening period. Roca assisted on the goal.
At the 11:25 mark, Grace Curran struck, giving GA a 3-0 lead. Sydney Pittignano scored off a pass from Grace Schulze, putting the Gators on top, 4-0.
Late in the third period, Schulze sealed the scoring. Taylor Glanville assisted on Schulze’s tally. Emily Greenhaw made 10 saves in goal for GA for the shutout win.
The Cardinals were defeated by Foran at the Foran Duels, 41-31, on Saturday.
Carlos DeWinter of Greenwich was victorious in his 113-pound match, pinning his Foran foe in 22 seconds.
Mitchell Grimes (132) won by pinfall in 5:14 and Emanuel Lai (138) pinned his opponent in 4:40. Cristobal Isaacs (152) also won by pinfall for the Cardinals.
