Taft School became the latest team that was unable to solve the Sacred Heart Greenwich field hockey squad.
The Tigers ran their record to 4-0, topping visiting Taft, 3-1, on Wednesday. Sacred Heart took a 2-0 lead into halftime behind goals from junior Ellie Manriquez and freshman Beth Yeager.
Manriquez scored with 23 minutes, 15 seconds remaining in the first half. Yeager tallied off a pass from Caroline Nemec with 14:06 to go in the opening half. Taft cut Sacred Heart’s advantage to 2-1 when Liv Santini tallied with 15:48 left in the second half. But the Tigers regained their two-goal edge when sophomore Katie Keller converted a pass from junior Ryan Smith at the 3:25 mark.
Julia Herzig made two saves for the victors. Phoebe Autio stopped 15 shots for Taft.
“We took control early in the game and maintained possession,” Tigers coach Alex Gheorghe said. “It was an enjoyable game with a lot of action and Taft was a solid opponent. We put together a nice win, which gives us confidence for the next match.”
Sacred Heart visits Westminster School Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
