WEST HARTFORD – The Hall High field hockey team is having fun, and why shouldn’t they be, they are on top as the season hits the halfway point.
The Warriors posted a 3-0 victory over Newington on Monday and improved to 8-0 on the season. Hall is the lone unbeaten and untied team in Class L and has given up just one goal all season.
“We played a great game today against Newington,” Hall coach Carlie Dailey said. “It was a fun game to watch and from what the girls said a fun game to play in.”
Hall has outscored its opponents 25-1 to start the season and is getting great leadership from captains Morgan Kennedy, Bea Lynch, and Christin Spring. The defense has been led by Lynch, Anna Zinzerella, and Christine Taylor and goalie Kathleen Keegan has allowed just one goal in eight games.
Midfielders Morgan Kennedy (5 goals) and Caitie Gadue in the center, Helen Chavey on the right and Christin Spring (5 goals) on the left have helped the Warriors transition to offense and forwards have had plenty of scoring chances this season led by Jenna Behan (5 goals) flanked by Shelley Wilson and Maeve Manley (4 goals).
“We are off to a great start on and off the field with all the girls playing well together and getting along as friends,” Dailey said. “I’ve heard some of the girls actually say it’s one of the nicest field hockey teams they’ve been a part of, because everyone’s so nice.”
Hall has also recieved strong play off the bench from a number of players including seniors Sydney Lerner, Ann-Margaret Sullivan and Becca Zeuschner, junior Emily DiMatteo, sophomores Lydia Chelli and Kailey Kennedy and freshmen Olivia Moran and Caroline Grant.
Tough games with Avon, Simsbury and Farmington loom in the near future, but Dailey is confident in her team.
“The following weeks will test our strength and skill with game against Avon and Simsbury coming up but we’re ready to take on the competition,” Dailey said.
