The Greenwich boys hockey team celebrated its Senior Night in style, skating to a 7-2 triumph against St. Joseph in an FCIAC matchup on Saturday night at Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink.
The Cardinals received two goals apiece from sophomore Wesley Zolin and junior Thatcher Danielson. Senior Ryan Columbo, junior Dylan Kronengold and sophomore Liam Matthews registered a goal apiece for Greenwich.
Zolin started the scoring, tallying with 6:17 remaining in the first period. St. Joseph tied the score at 1-1 with a goal at the 3:34 mark of the opening period.
The Cards then broke the game open in the second period. Columbo tallied off assists from junior Jake Shreders and junior Jack Hutchinson 2:53 into the second period, making it 2-1.
Danielson tallied less than a minute later and Kronengold converted a shot at the 8:02 mark of the second period, giving the home team a 4-1 advantage. Danielson added another second-period tally, then A.J. Gerace scored for St. Joseph, making the score 5-2.
Zolin sealed Greenwich’s five-goal second period by scoring with 4:16 to go in the period. In the third period, Matthews tallied for the victors.
Greenwich finished its regular season with a record of 13-6-1 and now shifts its focus toward the FCIAC Tournament. The Cardinals finished with a record of 10-1 in FCIAC play.
