The Greenwich High School boys basketball team ended 2018 in style.
Receiving points from 11 players, the Cardinals posted a convincing 76-47 win over Wolcott in the championship game of the Bristol Central Tournament on Saturday evening in Bristol.
Greenwich (3-1) entered the second quarter with a 24-9 lead and halftime with a 35-14 advantage.
“We set the tone of the game with our defensive pressure in the first quarter,” Cardinals coach Christopher Lovermi said. “We forced turnovers, which led to points.”
Senior center Oliver Milledge of Greenwich earned Tournament MVP honors. Milledge paced a balanced GHS scoring attack, registering 14 points. Junior guard Chris Genaro scored 13 points, including a 3-pointer, while senior forward Billy Nail added nine points with a 3-pointer for the Cards.
Genaro was named to the All-Tournament team for his efforts. Senior Chris Mark had eight points, while junior Max Steinman contributed seven points for the victors. Gavin Muir, a senior, and A.J. Barber, a sophomore added five points apiece for Greenwich, which led 54-31 after three quarters.
Elmin Redzepagic, a senior, had 13 points for Wolcott. The Cardinals play FCIAC foe Darien on Thursday.
“We are meshing well and trending upward,” Lovermi said. “I like what I’ve seen from the team over the first four games.”
