Greenwich High School’s boys 4×200-meter relay team of Lance Large, Chris Wint, Hunter Clark and Zane Nye continued their memorable track season at last week’s State Open Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The foursome, which captured the first-place medal in the event at the FCIAC and Class LL Championships, placed second at the State Open at Hillhouse High School’s Floyd Little Athletic Center, registering a time of 1:33.21.
The Cardinals’ quartet finished a blink of an eye behind State Open champion Bloomfield, which combined for a winning time of 1:33.15.
In the 4×200 relay Large had a strong lead-off leg, then Wint equaled his fastest split of the season, before handing off to Clark, who was about six-meters behind Bloomfield and Hall. Clark ran his personal-best relay split to pull Greenwich close to the leaders.
Anchoring the race, Nye passed Hall’s runner in the final straightaway and came within inches of catching champion Bloomfield.
“It was an exciting race and while they didn’t finish on top the boys ran great and made us very proud,” GHS boys indoor track and field coach Jeff Klein said. “Their time was our fastest of the season in the event and they earned a berth in the New England Championships.”
