After a tough start to the 2013-14 campaign the Granby Memorial High School boys basketball team, coming off a state championship season, finally got its first win on the new campaign Tuesday night with a win over Suffield.
The Bears got big games from Tanner Gibson (22 points, 5 steals), Zach Quinn (9 points, 11 rebounds), and David Eke (12 points). Curt Field also pitched in nicely with 10 rebounds.
“We have had a rough start so far with tough non-league games against Weaver and University (lost by 2 points) along with a game against North Central Connecticut Conference rival Avon (lost by 6 points when we had the lead early in the fourth quarter),” said head coach Walter Hansen. “We have been playing good, solid defense and have been in all of our games because of our ability to defend. Offensively, our chemistry and scoring is improving and as their year goes on we should be more cohesive and efficient. We have a terrific bunch of kids and our goal is still the same, to contend for a league title and get better each and every game.”
