Sarah McCauley of Chase Collegiate School has been selected as the 2013 Gatorade Connecticut Girls Soccer Player of the Year for the second straight year.
The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
The 5-foot-7 senior forward led the Highlanders to a 15-3-3 record and the New England Prep School Athletic Council Class D championship this past season. McCauley scored 52 goals and passed for 17 assists with 10 hat tricks in 21 games. She was a four-time NEPSAC Class D All-Star, a three-time Boston Globe All-Scholastic and concluded her prep soccer career with 195 goals and 74 assists.
McCauley has verbally committed to attend Yale University, where she will play soccer beginning this fall. She has maintained an A-minus average in the classroom. Captain of the Chase Collegiate Math Team, she has volunteered locally as a youth mentor in addition to fundraising to combat breast cancer and assist AIDS research. She’s also donated her time to the Afghan Youth Sports Exchange, which helps empower Afghani girls through soccer.
