The 2014 Connecticut Girls Ice Hockey Tournament gets under way on Monday and the pairings, dates, sites and times have been released by officials of the Southern Connecticut Conference and Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.
Because girls hockey isn’t sanctioned by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, each year the SCC and FCIAC rotate the oversight of the state tournament. This year the SCC and its commissioner Al Carbone are opearting the event that culminates with the championship game at Yale’s Ingalls Rink on March 8 at a time to be determined.
The event starts on Monday with quarterfinals with a pair of local teams in the event. No. 5 seed Guilford faces No. 4 New Canaan at Darien Ice Rink at 6 p.m. No. 8 Hamden faces No. 1 Darien at Darien Ice Rink at 7:40 p.m. A complete schedule is listed below.
“We’re looking forward to an exciting tournament,” Carbone said. “The eight teams qualified based on overall winning percentage with five SCC teams and three from the FCIAC qualifying.
“We’re excited about the future of girls hockey. With the growth of teams in northern Connecticut, we will be including teams from the CCC (Central Connecticut Conference) next season and that will help the sport grow.”
