Coginchaug’s girls basketball team found itself down 11 points at halftime against Weaver in the Class S girls semifinals at Plainville.
But the Blue Devils embarked on a second-half run, pulling to within 47-36 after three quarters and then storming back in the fourth. Virginia Benbow’s 3-pointer with 2 minutes and 6 seconds remaining put Coginchaug ahead, 59-57.
Coginchaug hung on from there, winning 67-62 to reach its second state championship game and first since 2012 when the Blue Devils won their first title over Capital Prep in that year’s Class S final.
