A wise man once said, “don’t predict games involving two teams you have not watched this season.” That man obviously was not me. Below are the picks I got horribly wrong last night.
No. 24 Sacred Heart Academy over No. 9 Watertown: The Pacers had tons of momentum heading into the state tournament before the first round loss. But I guess momentum is only as good as your next day’s starting pitcher, or only counts in horseshoes, or something like that.
No. 22 Hillhouse over No. 11 Pomperaug: Shyla Osmond, Alexis Beene and Co. honestly should have been good enough to get out of the first round. No disrespect to Pomperaug, which had a great season in SWC, but this is a real higher-seed-beating-the-lower-seed, but-its-still-an-upset-upset of the first round.
No. 17 Wolcott Tech over No. 16 Westbrook: I really can’t figure these tech schools out.
No. 15 O’Brien Tech over No. 18 Holy Family: I’m serious about these tech schools.
No. 23 Terryville over No. 10 Canton: Remember that whole thing about not picking a winner when you have not watched either team?
How I’m doing
After the first round my record for picks is 37-12. So not only am I better than the Los Angeles Lakers, but I could probably beat the Philadelphia 76ers. I’d say it was a pretty productive first round.
