Elise Graham, a 2014 GameTimeCT/New Haven Register All-Area guard from Amity, has chosen a college.
The Amity senior two-guard committed to Fairleigh Dickinson in Teaneck, New Jersey. The Division I school is in the Northeast Conference.
“Ever since I was little it was a dream to play Division I ball,” Graham said. “Over the years hearing I’m not tall enough and all that kind of stuff, it was really my own will. I wanted to do it.”
Last season Graham posted 17 points per game, eight rebounds three steals and three assists per game for the Spartans last season. Amity coach Michelle Shoop said she is proud of her guard.
“I’m very proud of her she’s such a hard-working student-athlete in and out of the classroom,” the coach said. “She’s such a great person inside and out and I think she deserves everything she’s gotten. She worked hard for it.”
Graham said she liked the coaching staff at the school and also her new teammates. She said she also liked the direction of the program.
Graham received CHSCA All-State honors, All-SCC Housatonic and the New Haven Tap Off Club. In addition for Fairleigh Dickinson, Northeastern, Siena, Stonehill and Boston University were interested in the tough, athletic guard. Shoop said Graham has been preparing since day one.
“A lot of college basketball is mental, being smarter than the other players,” Shoop said. “For the last three years we’ve been having the discussion of why you want to cut that way, what are your decision’s going to be like. That’s what you need to do to get to the next level.”
And Graham has been listening.
“She’s always pushing me harder,” the guard said. “And telling me, ‘if you want it, then keep going.’ “
