The Greenwich High School girls volleyball team celebrated Senior Night in style on Friday.
The Cardinals concluded their regular season in fine form, sweeping School of the Holy Child, 3-0, in a non-league matchup. Up next for Greenwich is the FCIAC Tournament, which commences on Monday. The Cards will enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed. Greenwich defeated Holy Child by set scores of 25-17, 25-8, 25-20.
Senior tri-captain Maggy Egan recorded 15 kills, 14 service points and 7 aces to help pace the Cardinals (15-2). Tara Ford, a senior tri-captain posted 12 kills, while senior Adnerys De Jesus notched 10 digs in the winning effort.
Greenwich jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the second game on consecutive aces from senior tri-captain Nicole Wood. Egan closed out the game with an ace. Wood registered 19 service points with 10 aces.
“I’m really confident that we are going into the postseason focused,” Ford said. “I am really thankful that we played so well on Senior Night. I love all my teammates, we had a really good bond all season.”
Egan’s kill capped the Cards’ first-game win. Wood helped the offense run efficiently tallying 35 assists. Greenwich coach Steve Lapham mixed up the lineup throughout the match, enabling numerous players to make significant plays.
“It was great to have a great mix,” Ford said. “Everyone deserves it. It’s great to see what different people had to offer out there.”
A resilient team during the regular season, Ford knows the Cardinals must continue its pace in the postseason.
“One of the main things is bouncing back when we make mistakes,” Ford said. “We have to continue to communicate, focus and be able to bounce back.”
