School: Simsbury High School.
Sarah, a senior, is a member of the National Honors Society and holds a 4.0 GPA. She is also a Simsbury High School Scholar and an Athlete-Scholar. Her track and field coach, Mike Cohen, says Sarah is presently being recruited by several colleges, and “is a leader and will do whatever is necessary for the team.”
Sports Played: Cross-country, indoor track, outdoor track, tennis.
Athletic Accomplishments: All-Central Connecticut Conference in cross-country; All-Class LL in cross-country; All-State in cross-country; holds Stratton Brook Invitational course record for Simsbury High School; hold the two-mile school record in outdoor track; All-CCC in tennis. At the recent CCC indoor meet she ran the anchor leg of the 4×800-meter relay with the fastest leg, took charge of the 1600-meter (one mile) race but was passed in the last 70 meters to place second in a personal best time (indoors), then ran the 3,200-meters (two miles) and won that that event.
How Do You Prepare Before An Event: “My teammates and I get a feel for the track before the meet starts. When it comes closer to the event we’re in we take laps outside. We always talk through our warm-ups to lighten the mood.”
Most Memorable Moment In Your High School Career: “Breaking the Simsbury High School 5-K record.”
Who Have Been The Most Influential People In Your Life And Why: “My knowledgeable cross-country and track coaches have developed my ability to compete, allowing me to be the athlete I am today. Their devotion has given me the opportunity to succeed, as well as my exceptionally supportive parents.”
What Are You Most Excited About This Season: “I’m excited to see if I can break my outdoor records by the end of the indoor season.”
Favorite Pro Or College Athlete: Shalane Flanagan (American long-distance runner).
College Plans: “To run for a Division 1 school.”
