Friday’s Roundup: Warde softball edges Ludlowe in FCIAC quarterfinals

SOFTBALL

WARDE 4, LUDLOWE 3

FCIAC Quarterfinals

Warde scored four runs in the third inning and held on for a 4-3 win over Ludlowe in a FCIAC quarterfinal game Friday afternoon at Sturges Park.

Olivia Vadas went 2-for-3, including a three-run home run, and Avery Yardis went 2-for-3 for the sixth-seeded Mustangs (12-6), who will play the winner of Saturday’s Greenwich-Trumbull game in the semifinals on Monday at Sacred Heart University.

Ira Boci and Margaret Nolan each had two hits and Bella Bookas went 1-for-3 with one RBI in the loss for the Falcons (16-5).

MERCY 6, LYMAN HALL 4

The Mercy softball team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Lyman Hall 6-4 Friday in an SCC game in Middletown.

Alexa Boone singled home allowed Sophia Nankee and Ashley DeLuca to score to tie the game in the sixth inning. Boone later scored on a sacrifice fly by Zoe Stenger. Kelly Smith singled and later scored on a base hit by Chanel Delgado.

Comments: With Mercy batting in the bottom of the sixth down 4-2 Sophia Nankee led off with a single and Ashley DeLuca reached on a error. Both advanced to 2nd and 3rd on stolen bases. Alexa Boone singled on a hard ground ball to second base which allow Nankee and DeLuca to score to tie the game. Boone later scored on a sacrifice fly by Zoe Stenger. Kelly Smith singled and later score on a base hit by Chanel Delgado.

Highlights: C–Bri Pearson had 6 strikeouts and allowed 0 hits in the win. Juodaitis,Floyd, Watkinson, Barnes all went 2-3 for Cheshire. Juodaitis Floyd and Watkinson all had 2 runs scored.

Ally Kirk had three hits and Bernadette Kingsbury, Abby McDonald and Paige Gambardella each had two hits for SHA.

CHESHIRE 3, HAND 1

Cheshire responded from a 25-22 loss in the first set to win three straight sets 25-11, 25-16, 25-13 to clinch the SCC regular-season title.

Luke Pinciaro had 36 assists and two blocks Colby Hayes added 13 kills and six blocks and Aiden Godfrey eight kills and six digs to lead the Rams.
