After an eventful Thursday in which little was actually accomplished, we’re back on the high school football trail in a suddenly stacked Friday slate of games.
The Live Blog (below) is up and running.
Southington at Glastonbury highlights a cornucopia of intriguing matchups across the state.
Yale-bound quarterback Stephen Barmore and end Zach Maxwell of Southington face QB Jalen Ollie and Glastonbury. The teams split last year, with Southing rallying to win the regular season game and Glastonbury taking the Class LL quarterfinal rematch.
This game figures to have major Class LL playoff implications. It’s probably the toughest game on Southington’s 10-game schedule.
But there’s so much else going on.
Elsewhere, the CCC’s Platt takes on ECC’s Waterford at 6:30 p.m. in a game broadcast on CPTVSports (check local listings).
In the SWC, Bethel travels to Barlow in a big early-season battle. Bethel faces Newtown next week, so this game is critical for QB Joey Piatnik and the Wildcats. Newtown travels to Pomperaug in another key league battle.
In the SCC-FCIAC challenge, it’s messy.
Shelton (up 49-0 at halftime) will wrap up its game vs. Trumbull; Hamden (up 6-0 in the first) continues vs. Danbury; McMahon (up 13-0 in the third) will try to close out Wilbur Cross. Ludlowe (up 24-7) will try the same vs. Lyman Hall. Darien is up 40-26 on Hillhouse in the fourth quarter. All of those games will resume between 3 and 4:30 p.m.
Fairfield Prep goes back to Stamford at 3:30 p.m. North Haven goes to Bridgeport Central at 4:30. Trinity Catholic plays Sheehan at 4:30. Bassick is at East Haven at 7.
With Wilton’s 21-20 victory over Guilford, FCIAC leads the SCC/FCIAC Challenge 3-2… for now.
Finally, the NVL gets underway with a full slate of games including No. 2 Ansonia at Torrington at 7.
