Arkeel Newsome ran for 309 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries and caught a 38-yard touchdown pass and Tajik Bagley scored three rushing touchdowns and also caught a TD for top-ranked Ansonia in a 62-13 win over Holy Cross in Naugatuck Valley League game at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury.

Wolcott 48, Seymour 41 >> Seymour jumped out to a 34-6 lead in the first half, but lost to Wolcott 48-41 in an NVL game at Wolcott.  Jason Pelletier’s 21-yard touchdown pass from Vincent Gambino with 11.6 seconds left won it for Wolcott.

Christian Thummond had four receptions for 102 yards and scored three touchdowns in a losing effort for the Wildcats.

Joseph Salemme rushed for 171 yards on 41 carries and scored a touchdown for the Wildcats (1-1). Wolcott trailed 34-13 at halftime and outscored Seymour 35-7 in the second half.

Nick van Dell completed 13 of 20 passes for 267 yards and Connor Dowd had 13 carries for 113 yards and two TDs for the Tigers (2-1). Jaylin Fuller and Steve Swinson had touchdown runs for the Governors (1-2).

Hamden Hall 54, St. Luke’s 12 >> Quarterback T.J. Linta completed 16 of 22 passes for 322 yards and five touchdowns and ran for a pair of 1-yard touchdowns to lead the Hornets to their prep school win in Hamden.

Mike Whalen had nine catches for 206 yards and four touchdowns for the Hornets (3-0). Mike Breuler led the Hornets defense with an interception and Joe Lord chipped in with seven tackles. Justin Brown scored on touchdown runs of 1 and 57 yards for St. Luke’s (1-2).

Whitney Tech forfeits >> Whitney Tech forfeited today’s game with Cheney Tech because the team did not have enough numbers due to injuries.

Joel Cookson, director of media relations for the CIAC, said the team did not feel it could “safely play” the game with the limited numbers it has.
