I think the question is why is a school that can recruit and have second year seniors playing against a tech school? Seems completely out of whack.

I believe someone backed out on their schedule and couldn’t find anyone else! Same reason why they scheduled St Thomas More who plays mostly PGs!

    • 10drs says

They would actually be pretty competitive on the SCC considering they can actually throw the ball well. But they are a class C prep school so they wouldn’t win the title. It wouldn’t be the same as if Cheshire Academy, Choate, or Brunswick got to feast on these teams.

    • Jombee says

Yes ……and they are a team with a couple good athletes going up against terrible competition.

As a former SCC parent this HH team can compete with anyone in the state. The throw & run the ball extremely well. The defense is the best I seen in sometime. They are also extremely well coached. We all have our opinions but it would be nice to see them go up against one of those teams.

Why would a coach run up the score to 66 points and allow a player to score 10 touchdowns? Unacceptable and a serious lack of sportsmanship.

Congrats to Davis… But have to ask.. because ONE Law player was an idiot on social media, all the Law players coaches and supporters deserved this? And all the other Sheehan players were not allowed to touch the ball? No I did not see the what was posted, but I would hope coaches would try to stay above it. If needed go ahead and make a point. But do feel bad for all the other Seniors down to hopeful freshman who should have gotten some well earned playing time in such a one sided game.

    • Fan1 says

      October 29, 2016 at 6:40 PM

Just to be clear, it was 41 carries. And in fairness to Law, I was fairly impressed by their defense. It was probably the fastest defense Sheehan faced all year (not the best, but the fastest). A couple times Davis was actually caught from behind, which is why he had so many short TD runs. Also, the game was competitive into the third quarter. The last two TDs may have been questionable, but I’m sure the coaches realized the opportunity and went for it.

    • Nate says

Either you tackle him or you do not. If the kid gets the ball 51 times stack the box and stop him. No need to feel sorry for anyone. Stop bringing PC crap to the game of football, teams have been blowing out teams since the beginning of time. Blame yourself as a defense for being unable to tackle. Is this kid a big time talent I have no idea but in this state you should be able to prevent this if you have a proprely prepared D.

When Sheehan plays a quality team they get destroyed. He is a great player but the coach is not helping him. How about building a program that can compete with quality teams then running up scores against inferior opponents.

  12. PapaDags says

51 carries in a blowout is only ASKING for an unfortunate injury–don’t they need him the rest of the year?

    October 29, 2016 at 8:34 PM

According to the box score on Max Preps Sheehan ran 42 offensive plays, all running plays.
    Davis ran 41 of them.
Are those stats correct? No passes? Maybe they aren’t posted right.
Davis was the only player allowed plays on offense?
Terzi, you’re making excuses for this? It’s ridiculous that they would choose to play a game like this.
Fan1 says the game was competitive into the 3rd quarter? It was 42-20 at the half and 54-20 after 3.
That’s not competitive and Davis had 6 tds in the first half.
I don’t believe in keeping the score down, let em play. But let the whole team play and it’s not PC to play JVs in a blowout, it’s standard procedure, and it gets playing time for younger players so they become someone who could step in if needed.
Please Terzi, give us ALL the facts.

Although running up a score is a classless act, we continually say to our kids that football teaches us “life lessons”. Well having the score run up on a subpar team is a life lesson better learned on a high school field. There are no “participation trophies” in life. Don’t like it, work harder but don’t make excuses. If you tried your best and the other team still ran up the score, that’s life deal with. On the other hand if you find satisfaction on running up a score on an inferior team or individual, well that speaks volumes too. Football does teach life lessons, not excuses.

Not a coincidence that Larka teams gave up not one but the top two rushing games in state history. Yes the Davis kid is good but you can’t make a game plan or then adjustments to stop him. I remember players like Harold Cooper and Arkell Newsome and they never had those stats. Yes the kid received the ball 41 times but Law has to have a plan to stop him. If you look at the record Sheehan is only a 4-3 and you know he is their only weapon….play the game and stop making excuses…Law coaches are just as much to blame as Sheehan

Scoring 2 touchdowns in the 4th are not only unnecessary but its blatantly padding the stats against a less than formidable opponent. Nobody gets anything out of humiliating an inferior opponent. They’re not commenting on the issue.

The press should not speak to this coaching staff until they address these issues. All coaches want good press for their kids, as they should. To get that positive press, they should be held accountable to address the unpleasant issues they are involved with as well.

If the coaching staff felt strongly enough to keep a player in for 10 touchdowns and run 41/42 offensive plays, they should feel strongly enough to explain their thought process. (if there was one.)

Or, apologize for a lack of judgement.

We shouldn’t put much weight on these state records!

If you want to get your kid a state record you run him 41 times against an inferior opponent all the way through the 4th quarter and POOF 10tds/541yds later he’s in the record books.

Cooper, Newsome, Highsmith, Phillips and maybe a few more could have easily obliterated the state record book if they played past halftime of their TEAMS blowout wins. I commend their coaches for not only preserving their bodies but also knowing and understanding what the GAME of football is really about!

P.S. Shame on ANYONE using what a child put on a social network as the reasoning for this unsportsmanlike act by the coach. You didn’t allow those players that worked hard in the summer and at practice to have an opportunity to participate.

if, to win the game, he needed to rush 41 times for 540 yards and 10 TD’s then i do not think we would be having any conversations. It is not necessarily the workload and subsequent results it is the way it happened.
