Krivca, Woodland shut out Torrington in opener

By Peter Wallace | September 7, 2018

TORRINGTON — Edit Krivca ran for 281 yards and four touchdowns, leading Woodland to a 35-0 season-opening rout at Torrington’s Robert H. Frost Sports Complex Friday night.

The 5-foot-8 180-pound senior had touchdown runs of 29, 1, 65 and 85 yards as Torrington held the Hawks to 14 points in the first half, then chased Krivca for two touchdowns in the third while quarterback Tyler Bulinski threw a 20-yard scoring strike to Justin Marks for another third-quarter touchdown.

“It was disappointing,” Torrington coach Gaitan Rodriguez said. “Our pre-season made me think we’d do better.

“I was proud of our first half, but we did everything we shouldn’t do in the second half. Our mistakes showed our youth.”

Krivca’s first touchdown, with 8:33 left in the first quarter, made it look like a long night for the Raiders as the Hawks hit the scoreboard on just three plays from scrimmage, capped by Krivca’s 29-yard jaunt.

“They play a wing T style we’re not likely to see again, with misdirection plays and power runs,” Rodriguez said.

Nevertheless, the Raider defense closed ranks to leave it at that for the quarter, forcing a nine-play Hawk march in the second period with a final one-yard plunge by Krivca.

The third quarter was Torrington’s nightmare.

Krivca burst out of the first play from scrimmage for 65 yards, then got quarterback Tyer Bulinski into the act for a 20-yard pass to Marks, with Krivca finishing his night with another first-down touchdown for 85 yards late in the quarter.

“With the five guys I have up front, all I do is follow them,” said Krivca, who ran for 1,300 yards last year and sets 1,500 yards as this year’s goal.

“Edit’s a hard worker,” said Woodland coach Chris Moffo. “We graduated a lot of guys up front and the young guys had a good half.”
