ENFIELD >> Nathan LaJoie completed 12 of 18 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown as Stafford/Somers/Enfield built a big lead and hung on to defeat Enfield 24-20 Friday night. It was Stafford’s first home victory since November 12, 2012.
Joe Mongillo caught five passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns, both in the second quarter as Stafford built a 21-0 halftime lead. He also had an interception.
But Enfield rallied back with a touchdown run by Joey Roberts in the third quarter and a pair of touchdowns from Mason Dumas. Stafford’s Mike Munson, however, added a 24-yard field goal to keep Enfield at bay.
“The kids battled hard,” said Stafford coach Brian Mazzone, whose team improved to 2-2. “This was an important game for them. They wanted to get back to .500 and have some more positives to build off of after two tough games. If we play smart, we can be tough to beat.”
Jackson Rehault had 10 tackles and an interception. Devin Gilbert had eight tackles and Jake Hinkel added seven. Enfield fell to 0-5.
