Sheehan tailback Zach Davis and New Canaan quarterback Drew Pyne were the two Connecticut players named to MaxPreps’ 2016 All-America teams, which have been released this week on the stats database website.
Davis, a first team tailback on the 85th New Haven Register All-State team and the offensive player of the year by USA Today, was named to MaxPreps’ Medium School All-American Team as a first team running back. Davis is committed to play at Fordham.
Davis ran for 3,588 yards and 50 touchdowns on 284 carries while setting the state record for rushing yards in a game twice — 541 vs. Law and 543 vs. Lyman Hall. He finished his career with 5,232 yards and 72 touchdowns on 472 carries.
Pyne, who threw for 2,347 yards on 166-of-259 passing as New Canaan won its fourth-consecutive Class L championship, was one of two quarterbacks named to the MaxPreps’ All-American Freshman Team as a second-teamer.
He was an honorable mention New Haven Register All-State.
No Connecticut players were selected to the MaxPreps All-America first or second teams.
