Ansonia and West Haven played their annual scrimmage Labor Day morning at West Haven High School, marking the midway point of the 2014 high school football preseason. [Check photos from the event here]
There’s one full week of practices left before we kick off Week 1 of the regular season.
Meanwhile, we here at Football HQ, the preseason ballots for the New Haven Register/GameTimeCT Top 10 poll have been handed out. We’ve received a few back, but a majority of voters are waiting.
Waiting for what?
If any of them are like me, they’re waiting to get a glimpse of Connecticut’s high school football teams in their 2014 incarnations before casting their votes.
But we can’t be everywhere, every time. So, to commemorate Labor Day and the first day of September, we’re turning the floor over to you — our anonymous (and, by definition, untrustworthy) sources on the CTHSFB blogosphere — to fill in the gaps.
There have been a bunch of scrimmage comments on other posts here on GameTimeCT, so here’s a post to keep them all in one place.
Have at it: What have you seen? Who looks good? Who doesn’t? Who beat who and who did what? Feel free to throw out predictions on the upcoming season, as well.
For example, The Polecat of The Day donned his MaxPreps hat last week to pontificate on the CT Fab 5. (hint: Southington, Hand, Ansonia, Fairfield Prep, Darien)
Yes, we know, 100 percent of the the information submitted must be taken with a grain of salt by the rest of us.
Then again, there are a few aliases that have reputations to uphold, so maybe we can get some honest assessments.
Anyway, for the rest of the scrimmage week, feel free to stop on by here to tell us what you’ve seen.
Once again, you might want to double check with schools or family as to when these scrimmages actually kick off. Like the West Haven-Ansonia scrimmage, which decided to start at 9 a.m. instead of the listed time of 10 a.m. (here’s why), you can never be sure exactly when these preseason games start.
