The Football Podcast Without a Name: Join Pete, Sean and Kyle for a preseason chat

Peter Paguaga | September 5, 2018

Sean Patrick Bowley, left, Kyle Brennan, center, and Pete Paguaga will be bringing you a high school podcast all season.

Welcome all to the GameTimeCT high school football podcast.

Yes, we don’t have a name of the podcast and we are calling on all our listeners, readers and viewers to go to this survey and vote here.

Now… to football.

The gang is back together.

Sean Patrick Bowley and myself are joined by our very good friend of the program, Kyle Brennan, to break down everything high school football heading into the 2018 season.

We talked the preseason poll, we broke down the conferences and made state championship predictions.

This show will come out every Monday night, so I welcome you to join us through what will be an exciting season.

You know it’s serious business when the roll of duct tape comes out !

Voted for Necessary Roughness, even though Meat Grinder was an instinctual choice and would probably have been just as good.

Does this mean I have to become a regular commenter around here?

      Yea sure why not

It was good to see you’re still doing sports Kyle despite the other important things that have priority.
I definitely believe you’re a strong addition to the team and will provide valuable insight and good commentary.

Holy smokes, the great Spreado is here! Thanks guy, hope all is well!

Valuable insight has never been my thing but unfiltered snarky commentary is right up my alley.

All is well man! I’m a dad and husband now so I’ve grown up lol

One of my step kids brought home a letter you took sent out for your teaching this year. Told them you’re a good guy they can learn from. Awesome to see you taking your skills and experiences into educating kids.

Miss the NVL blog days, wish you guys could’ve kept it up with some help or interns, it added a lot to the community and highlighted teams, players and coaches not associated with Ansonia.

Gametime is great, but it was awesome having both sites man.

Either way, glad to see you’re back out there, definitely will enjoy listening to the podcast

Haha all good to hear! Small world this is. The NVL Blog era was a good one but I think we let it go at the right time. Plus, it’s funny to watch some of the hard-nosed Ansonia guys come over here to the bigger pond.

not a big fan of the reasoning there. but I guess if you’re going to make a protest vote, the preseason poll is the place to do it.

Guys the Cam Newton like QB you’re looking for is Sheldon Shuler, he wears #2. Haven’t seen that Jersey since Newsome. He’s been the QB o Ptolemy lead in scrimmages and in the dress rehearsal against Shelton.

You guys had me laughing about all of the undefeated a Freshman teams lol. An interesting note was that I overheard Ansonia freshmen will be playing some top SCC schools due to lack of freshman rosters for some NVL teams.
The most interesting comment was that Ansonia freshman will play Darien. I overheard two parents at the game the other day, so not sure of true any of this is.
But I think that’s one freshman game that will catch people’s attention.
Markell Dobbs brother is the RB for freshman(coaches kept calling him baby Dobbs), I seen him and his older brothers at the Shelton scrimmage.
Their best player is the QB who is Dobbs cousin, as is the Cam Newton like QB.
    Pretty athletic family.

Roll Tide,I asked last week where Markell was I don’t see him on the Central Ct roster?I thought it was a fair question but it never got posted? Is he hurt or didnt it work out for him at Central?Great player was hoping to follow him for 4 more years

    • Roll Tide says

      September 6, 2018 at 11:48 AM

I haven’t asked about Markell. I don’t know them that intimately, just mutual respect and always stopped and had small talk with them, nice family.
Not by anyone in the family, but a woman that says she knows them said Dobbs was at a prep school. Not sure if it was for more offers or what, never heard anything about him having grade issues like I did with his older brother Montrell.
He’s a great kid and an awesome player, whatever it is I hope everything works out and we can watch him for 4 more years.
Baby Dobbs is good, I think if all develops well Ansonia has another star Dobbs on their hands.

In recent years there have been lots of summer football stories about the various 7 on 7 competitions, and it’s clear that success there can predict success in the coming season. There has also been at least one football ‘linemen’s challenge’, which has also been a pretty reliable indicator of success in the following fall. I try and keep an eye out for any stories about the linemen’s challenge, but this year I seemed to have missed it. Any idea what happened, or where I might find a write up on it?

This year West Haven wrested the trophy from the Darien linemen in the competition. Saw a few snippets myself on YouTube I believe. You might want to do a search there.
