Lewis Mills 33, Stafford/Somers/East Windsor 27
BRISTOL >> Trevor Baker and Chris Romano hooked up for a pair of touchdowns, including the eventual game-winner in the third quarter as Lewis Mills defeated Stafford/Somers/East Windsor Friday night at Muzzy Field.
The Spartans improved to 6-3 and stayed mathematically alive in the Class M playoff race, but barely. Lewis Mills needs four teams ahead of it to lose and get a majority of its bonus games — a statistically unlikely event — to actually get a playoff spot.
Stafford fell to 3-6.
Mike Ciccerelli returned the opening kickoff for an 85-yard touchdown and Tyler Mello recovered a fumble in the end zone to give the Spartans an early 13-0 lead.
Stafford actually went ahead 20-19 at halftime on a passing TD and running TD by Nate LaJoie. But Lewis Mills countered with two third quarter touchdowns.
Colton Engle returned a fumble 33 yards for a touchdown to pull Stafford within 33-27, but couldn’t make up the difference.
Jacob Berry caught seven passes for 100 yards and a touchdown and LaJoie completed 14 of 27 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns for Stafford. Jake Hinkel had two sacks and Devin Gilbert had nine tackles, two for a loss.
