Second verse, same as the first: Class LL champion Darien has been voted No. 1 in the final Day of New London coaches poll, released Tuesday evening.
The Blue Wave (12-1) earned 9 of 13 first-place votes to claim the top spot by 16 points over No. 2 Hand. This is Darien’s third-consectutive No. 1 ranking in the coaches’ poll.
Class LL Champion Hand took No. 2, getting three first-place votes in the process. St. Joseph, the Class S champion finished third with one first-place vote.
Class LL runner-up Greenwich was fourth, Class S runner-up Ansonia fifth and Class M champion Killingly, the state’s only unbeaten team finished No. 6.
Like the final GameTimeCT / Register Top 10, this was also the first time in the history of the coaches’ poll that state’s lone unbeaten team was not voted No. 1.
Masuk, West Haven and New Canaan followed and Shelton took the No. 10 spot.
