Assistant Mark Farnsworth has been named the interim football coach at Ledyard for the 2016 season, Ledyard athletic director and former coach Jim Buonocore announced Tuesday.
Farnsworth, a physical education teacher at Ledyards, has been with the football program since 2008, when Buonocore took over the program for Bill Mignault. Farnsworth has coached inside linebackers, running backs and has also been the junior varsity coach.
“It is an honor to be selected to lead the Ledyard High School Football program,” Farnsworth said in a statement provided by the school. “I look forward to upholding the rich tradition that has been established within the community. The coaching staff is united in its efforts to sustain a proud athletic identity that will empower the players to be the best they can be on and off of the field. “
Ledyard went 102 and reached the Class M semifinals last season. Buonocore announced his resignation last month to take an administrative role with the school.
Farnsworth will serve under an interim basis. The position will be reposted following the 2016 season. Ledyard assistant coaches Jose Sanabria, Jeff Ziegler and Bob Brackett will remain with the team, Buonocore said.
“Mark is a person of high character who clearly understands the demands and high expectations for our football program,” Buonocore said in a statement. “I am grateful for his willingness to step up and lead our program in 2016. He has been an outstanding assistant coach for our program for the past eight years and will be excellent as he steps into this leadership role.”
