As noted, the first round of football scrimmages concluded on Wednesday. While scrimmages don’t mean a whole heckuva lot, they especially don’t mean much the first time out.
HOWEVER, since high school football coaches are worse than a 19th century sewing circle when it comes to circulating rumors (check the comments. A lot of those guys are coaches), we’re already starting to get feedback on how the teams performed their first time against different uniforms.
Like, for example, we heard Masuk was “all over” Foran. We heard St. Joseph smoked Barlow. Commenters on other posts have given other observations from scrimmages they attended (or coached).
Does it really mean anything? NO! Not without proper souring. But this is how the preseason has worked for as long as I can remember. As we reporters gather their previews, we come across all kinds of observations. Some turn out to be dead on. Others… not so much.
Frankly, we didn’t get out there Wednesday (can’t, too busy trying to preview all 140+ schools, y’know). That means we’re left to rely on the opinions of coaches, or the opinions of coaches they heard from, to gather what’s going on as we plug away on actual, factual previews.
We’ll get out there starting Saturday, for sure. But, until then, what are you hearing from the first batch of scrimmages? Whaddya got for us? Who’s looking good out there? This is where you can discuss.
As always, remember where you’re commenting. Keep it civil.
