Tyler Ancrum scored 26 points and Central’s defense stifled Greenwich throughout as the Hilltoppers repeated as FCIAC boys basketball championship with an 80-72 victory Thursday at Fairfield Warde.
Central (22-1) withstood a 27-point night from Greenwich’s C.J. Byrd, who personally kept Greenwich in the game. His 3-pointer midway through the third quarter got the Cardinals within 46-45. But Central’s defense turned up the pressure and re-took control of the game.
Ancrum, the game’s MVP, added seven rebounds. Orhan Cecunjamin scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds for Central. Alex Wolf scored 22 for Greenwich
This is Central’s third FCIAC championship, and its third in five years. This is also the fifth straight FCIAC title for a Bridgeport school.
