Parris Rowell scored 21 points and earned Most Valuable Player honors as Westhill defeated top-seeded Danbury 72-61 in the FCIAC boys basketball championship Thursday at Fairfield Warde.
Westhill, the No. 6 seed, bolted to a 15-point halftime lead. Though Danbury pulled within a point in the fourth quarter, Westhill managed to regain control of the game and outscored Danbury 21-14 in the fourth quarter.
Rowell helped the cause by going 8-of-8 from the line in the quarter and 9-of-11 for the game.
Tyrell Alexander also scored 21 points for Westhill, which was coached by assistant Roberto Nieves as head coach Howard White observed from the bench due to medical reasons.
Scott Nesbitt scored 17 points for Danbury, which was looking for its first title since 1992. Judah James added 14.
