WATERFORD >> Seth Lake made eight 3-pointers and scored 27 points in an MVP performance that led New London to a 68-62 victory over Ledyard in the ECC boys basketball championship Friday night at Waterford.
This was New London’s seventh tournament championship in eight seasons, a run only interrupted by Norwich Free Academy’s title last season.
The Whalers, ranked tied for second in the latest GameTimeCT / Register Top 10 poll, remained unbeaten at 22-0.
New London, which bolted to a 13-point first quarter lead, had to rally from a five-point deficit with just under six minutes remaining.
Lake was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all three foul shots. Then, after teammate Eddie Gilbert got New London to within 2 with a 3-pointer, Lake drained his eighth 3-pointer of the night to put the Whalers ahead to stay with 3:54 remaining.
DeAnte Bruton scored 25 points to lead Ledyard.
